After...

Just thought you might like to see the after shot.  She made it through surgery fine.  As you can see she has a new humerous head. I can also tell she is going to have quite the scar.  can you see all the staples?

Nursing is a Dangerous Job

Take a close look.  This is my mother's shoulder.  She was working in Labor & Delivery on Thursday.  She was in a patient's room when she received a phone call on her Vocera. She went to leave the room when she tripped on the monitor cords. She tried to catch herself with her hand and jammed her arm into the socket and broke off the head of the humorous.
Last night my dad didn't like how she was looking. He put her on a pulse oxymeter. She was reading in the high 70's.  So she is now in the hospital on 2 L of O2 but will be discharged home today but with oxygen.  She finds out on Monday if they will just screw the shoulder back together or replace it.

Time moves on

It's really crazy to look back at the old blogs and see how much has changed. I noticed how much hair she didn't have. Ha ha. Ryann has grown up so much. She is walking and talking and signing. Right now she is whining in her room because she doesn't want to go to bed. Its been about 45 minutes of whining. I put her down just after 10 pm and she has been whining ever since. The joys of being a mother. I am trying to ignore her because it is past her bedtime and she needs to go to sleep. It's so hard to ignore her cuteness.











Can you believe it. She is sitting on her new potty. She isn't even 2 yet and has her own potty. She has used it a couple times but most of the time just likes to play on it and in it. I think she spends more time standing in it than sitting on it. But it makes her feel like such a big girl.

Hopefully I will keep blogging. All of my nursing school friends have a facebook and they keep up with each others lives. Miguel says I'm just asking for trouble if I have a facebook. I already have a family blog so maybe this will help. I love the girls from school. It's sad to think that we may lose track of each other after school is done.

Cute Things

It's really amazing how much babies change in such a short time. She is really aware of her surroundings. She's even aware of the TV. She seemed really interested in the show we were watching that night.









She's even become too aware of cameras, especially my camera phone. She could be all smiles until I pull my phone out. Then we lose the smiles.










I had to throw in this picture. Check out the shoes. So cute! They're still too big but fit well enough to stay on.



We're excited. Brittney is coming over for dinner tonight. It'll be the first time we've seen her since she moved out. I'm sure she'll be surprised at how much the little one has grown.

The Move Out

This is what we came home to last night. Brittney decided to move out. She moved all her stuff to her Grandpa Russ'. She said she can't handle it here anymore. She feels that moving out will give her a new life, plus she'll be closer to school.

Miguel called it. In fact, we were talking about it earlier in the day. I'd asked if he'd get try to stop her if she did. He said no.

I wonder if moving in with Grandpa with really make a difference in her life. Will she really learn to be more responsible? She's not really out on her own there.

Baby Wise

Natalie told me she had heard that Baby Wise was really great. I read it not long ago and realized I should've read it before Ryann was born. The main focus is to get her on a schedule of feeding/waketime/sleeptime. It's a little backwards from what most people do. How easy is it to nurse a baby to sleep?

We seem to be doing pretty well. I'm sticking to the 3 hour schedule to help with lactation and get her to distinguish between day and night. It really makes it easy to know why she is crying. I feed her when she wakes up, change her diaper and usually within an hour after that she gets grumpy. I stick a pacifier in her mouth and she's out within minutes.

Now comes the problem... the book recommends not using any sort of props to put the baby down for a nap. No rocking or nursing to sleep, and certainly no pacifiers to help sleep. The babies need to learn to self soothe. That's why I think it would've been easier to start from the beginning. It's hard to break routine and the pacifier works so well.

One step at a time. I'm really working on the schedule part. Once I think I've got that down, and when the kids are back at their mom's, I'll work on the self soothing. Nobody really wants to listen to her crying herself to sleep :(

Ryann was pretending she could sit up on her own. This is at Grandma Laura's house. We were visiting while Miguel helped Grandpa Polo fix the wiring on their trailer.
